The annual meeting of the stock
holders of the Farmers and Mer
chants Insurance Co., of Albany,
was held at the office of the com
pany yesterday, a large attendance
of stockholders, being present
The annual reports of the president
and secretary were read, sho.wng
a prosperous year tor the company,
the premium receipts exceeding
tii losses $30,000, and the com
pany's assets exceeding the liabil
ities 53,000. Universal harmony
prevailed among the stockholders
at the meeting, and the course of
the directors relative to their en
tire management of the business
of the comiiany was fully endorsed,
be same board being re-elected
almost unanimously, there being
but a few scattering votes. Tbe
directors are : U. S. Strahn, John
Burnet, G. F. Hmpson, J. L
Cowan, J. O. Wristman, W. F.
Read, Dr. L. Foley, M. Sternberg
and J. K. Weat herford. The com
pany is doing a prosperous busi
ness and is one oi the solid insti.;
tut ions of Albany.
To Meet in Salem.
The third meeting of the con
vention of Oiegon aheriffs will be
held in Salem on the 20th of this
month. It is a little suggestive
that all the sheriffs should be
gathered here as soon as the Ore
gon solons come together, but it
is a coincidence, not a necessity.
The state board of commerce, com
posed of delegates from every
board of trade in Oregou, is to
meet in this city on the loth.
There will he 150 delegates in at
tendance. Matter pertaining to
the approbation by the legisla
ture for Otegon's display at the
Columbian exposition at Chicago,
in '93, is the one of the subjects for
action by this body. The
meeting will be held in the opera
house, ana the executive commit
tee will ciine together atthe board
