Irby has a history, and not a very
savory one He has the icputa
tion of being a ''bad man," al
though it is said he has since re
formed and pined the Baptist
Church. Rack in the seventies he
was outlawed by the Democratic
Governor Simpson, who succeeded
Hamp'on, for' murdering a man
named Kilgore in Laurens county.
A reward of $150 was offered for
his arrest, but he lied the State
and remained away until the thing
b'ew oirer, when he returned to
Laurens, and with the aid ofi. W.
Shell, then Clerk of the court and
now Ailiat.ce member of Congress,
secured an acquittal.

Reports are coming in of a blind
ing snow fctorm raging along the
coast from Sandv Hook to (Tape

from all points in New York show
an exceedingly heavy snow fall,
and consequently an interruption
of trallic. In Mohaw k valley the
storm is unusually heavy, "more

fallen to-day. Reports from New
Hampshire state that the snow is
the heaviest in' several years. At
Hangor, Maine, and vicinity the
lav was the coldest, of the season.

in Vermont say the storm is the
most severe in many years. Cars
in the cities are blocked and rail
road trains delayed.

Robert Glaze, a former cWk in
the Hotel Fife at Tin- una, now
secretary of some capitalist or
corporation, arrived in Port Town
s ml on Tuewlaj , when hechanced
to meet a young Swedish girl,
Quag i Wallada; aud she compelled
him t t marry her forthwith. In
this she was assisted hy friends,
and the ceremony was performed
by Rev. Dr. Raker, of the Episco
pal church. The girl was cham
bermaid at the hotel eighteen
months, ago, while Ulaze was
e'erk. It was the old story of a
designing man ami a trusting
maul. Finding herself betrayed
and deserted she went to Pott
Towns'-nd six months ago and ob
tained work in a lodging house.
Four mouths ago the child was
hori, the image of Lis dad. She
saw nothing of Glaze till Tuesday,
but with the result stated.

James McCully, while hunting
near Knappa landing yesterday,
found the Lodv of a man in some
drift wood. Examination showed
it to be the bod v of Ole Stedii. On
tho body was found a small sum of
money, a watch and deeds indicat
ing that the man owned real estate
iu Clarke county. East Portland
and Spokane Falls to the value of
f 1,000. No clue to Stedji's resi
dence has been discovered. He
has a daughter supposed to be liv
ing in Sokane Falls. The body
had been in the water for several
weeks.

Many houses were blown down,
