Oakland was the scenn of another
railroad disaster this morning. A
tew minutes before 3 o'clock th

tial Pacific fie'lit, which but a few
minutes before had pulled Into

I'hirteen freight cars and the en
gine of the Oregon train are biuhhIi-
ed and piled up in wild oonfusio.
Foitunately no one was killed, but
Kngineer Kelliher and the tra n
men were somewhat braised.
When the engine plunged into tha
caboose of the forward train tha
cars caught tire. The caboose and
two cars of ice were burned. UJier
cats were badly wrecked and tele
scoped fust who in to blame for
ihe disaster is not known.

Portland, Nov. 4. A fatal ac
cident occurred on the steel rail
way bridge at 7:15 o'clock this
morning. '
George Whitley, aged 17, had
driven across the bridge from Ihe
East side, with a wagon loaded
with brick. He was accompanied
by another teainMer by the nam
ol Gray, whom wagon was also
heavily laden.
At the turn in the west end of
the bridge Whitley, who was
ahead of Gray, leaned over to put
on his break, owing to the, very
sleep grade. In some way he lost
his balance, and in an instant he
tell finm his seat, and 'was run
over by both wheels of the wagon,
which was moving quite rapidly,
and killed.
