in receipt of a communication from
the supeiintendent stat'ng that
Mr. Dickens of the coast survey
was engaged in completing a sur
vey of that part of that '"o.ut just
south of Coos bay, Oregon ; that
this would probablv bo finished
the present year, and that when it
is done he will be instructed by
the superintendent to take up
another unfinished part of the
coast, which includes Kogue river
and he would then be instructed
to survey said river to the end of
tide water or the head of naviga
tion, all cf which the superintend
ent hopes to accomplish the com
ing year, provided appropriations
for the work on the coast of Ore
gon are not cut dawn at the next
Ecssion. The publication of h
chart of Rogue river and the coast
up and down from its mouth will
follow shortly thereafter.
