Tub ops and down i of the silver market is watched with a great W Of interest by all parties, it being considered an index , to measure the effect of the new sil ver law. The- E g'neeiing and Mining Journal cays in speaking of the matter that thei tat stical posi tion of the metal app-ars le-t sat isfactory to those who are ttili looking for an advance in silver than it is in reality, and no doubt this La influenced speculators and assisted in the reaction ; but a careful examination over a some what wider field will lead to a con ciusioo different from that arrived at by those who take a "bearish" view of the market It has been pointed out that in the two month of July and August the total ex p rts of silver were $4,924,090, and the total import 3,l",G,87.", leav ing net exports $1, 777,921, Rjjiinat net exports in the com s;oi ding two months of last ye;r of $3 ,6I, 115. Considering lhat Europe nt only abstained from her usual purchases in thi country, bwt con trary to her cnstoui cxited the metal to us on balance ince the date that silver legislation became a probability, the foregoing figures would indicate but a flight pros pert of reduction of the accumula tion of silver here. If we so back to the month of May, when the anticipated legislation Vrgan u make itrelf really, felt, we find . that for the four months ending August 31st, the net import of s'l Ter amounted to $1. 270,504, while for Ibe corresponding four months ! last year the net export was XI, y2B,G43. This difference then, on 1,205,147, representing more or lea the accumulation hanging on the market, ia whit dampi the pectaYtrr' aidor dm ing ti e present temporary sn.-pension of ' trfarory pan-bases. It mus', how ever, be remembered that the prr. -ehaea'o'tbe treasnry. owing to ' the adjustment of .the dale from which U calculate the operation of the law, have on'y amounted to bout 3,VK,0t0 cunccs for Septem ber, and that from Octotier 1st, this wbl be increased to 4.000,000 atees monthly.. Taking. the sil ver certificatcar'as fairly represent ing the viatel ejeek of silver in : the New York "market, we find tbat this increased cteadily up to Beptember 10th, wh-n the amount for one day exceeded 9,000,000 ounces." From that day forward, there has been as steady a decline, to tbat to-day the stock is reported at Its than 7,100,000 ounces this during a period of rixteen days w hen, as already noted, the gov- ernmeat puirhases were consider ably below what will hereafter be the monthly amount. We should alio not lute sight of the fact that the shipments to the East from Ixndon have shtwn no signs of diminution dur'ng the rise in price, but have rather increased, leature which has ch tracterized that market during ihe past two enrs. This ha resulted, taken ui coni'.mction ii!h t! e hs of supplyfrom thit co.uitry, in re tlncing the stock of silver in I-oi don since Apt il 1st, of tl.W ytarj . m ajia tr-r 1 t uy I rriy i,ni;:w ounces, i;m, uulesa Indon show more vii-r , - :.
