'jnite a large railroad deal is an nounced in the fact that the Atchi on company had bought control of the Colorado Midland. It is said the price paid is $5 per share. The Colorado Midland operates 274 miles of road, the main line running from Colorado Springs to Newcastle, Colorado, 2oA miles, Aith branches to Aspen, Spring Gulch and Arkansas Junction been living on the same. Now conies the original owner, sirs. Frances Watch, who deeded the land to some heirs, and brings suit to recover the land. Tue case is to be tried next month. The land in question lies in the middle of a latge farm and is valuable property. The Coast Fork bridge will be completed this week. The piers of the Springheid bridge are con stneted and accepted. The Lake Creek bridge will be completed in a few davs and the county com missiouers will probably go down this week to accept it. McIlwaix Recently the Dallas Observer claimed that Mrs. Hardy Hollman whs the oldest native Oregonian in Polk county, saying she was born in Washington county, Oregon, in 1845. I his brings out the follow ing from a correspondent of the McMinnville Telephone-Register : ' D. M. Hewitt, of Monmouth, was born in Washington county in 1844, and he is the son of Henry Hewitt, who came to Oregon in 1843, driving the first wagoji that ever came down the western slope ot the Blue mountains and the econd to the Dalles of the Colum bia river and the Applegate outfit that claim the honor, followed their trail." The Oakes Swiss Bell Ringers and Comedy Company which pleased the citizens so much on their apiiearauce here about a year ago, are coming again, .iney win be here on the 22d of this month, and will lie greeted by a full house, for they are good. On their ap pearance at Huron, Dakota, the Leader of that place said: "Those who attended the vocal and in strumental treat at the opera house last Saturday night pro nounced the Oanes Swiss Bell Ringers and comedy Sketch Club a little out of the common order of traveling troupes. They frequently stirred the nous" in attendance, who favorably expressed them selves iu relation to the entire ex ercise. The solos were excellent. The English comedian, Harry Eades, with his mirth provoking melody and his funny faces, in terested the crowd amazingly. Frank Hollister, the artistic banjo ist and character vocalist, was en cored to the echo. It was an ac ceptable and interesting affair. The company will do well to come again."
