prospected every fork of Bull Run,

to come back.
They did not get to the end of
the route laid out in Thornton's
diagram and left Dan Kos,
larvis' son-in-law, there to follow
up the trail. They found a num

The coin is apparently of brass,

The spoo.n is a peculiarly shned
one. the imiwi being broad and
shallow and the same width at
each end. ( ne often hears of
people being iorn with a silver
spoon in their mouth, hut tiie old
Indian in whose grave tin- spoon
was found could hardly have been
so fortunate. 'The sjxion has evi
dently been worn as an ornament,
perhaps susended from the nose
or ear, as there is a small hole in
the end of the handle and a part
of another hole by which the
spoon had been suspended until
one side of the hole was worn out.

SERIOUS ACCIDEHT.

Yesterday while Mr. Denny,pro
prietor of the new warehouse at
Munkers, on the Oregon Pacific,
was driving in a buggy between
that place and his liome some
two or three miles east of Jeffer
son, he was met by a Chinamsn
carrying loaded baskets on a pole.
The Chinamen paid no attention
to Mr. Dennv's signals but kept
steadily approaching although he
could see that the horse was
frightened. The horse finally
reared and became unmanageable,
throwing Mr. Denny out and then
running off. Mr. R. A. Roberts
of Salem, was driving on the road
and saw that Mr. Denny was in
jured and taking -him into his
buggy carried him home. The
injuries we e to the spine and
were very ious. TheChinaman
meandered unconcernedly upon
his way.
