Last evening alxut t:30 Mr.
Frank MuKuigbt was crossing
over the ferry into this city, driv
ing a team of standard '.'red trot
ting niares, ovn"d hy Mcknight
hros.. when an accident occurred
that resulted in )th iiorxes liemg
drowned.
The boat had landed on this
Hide of the river, and a team that
va- ahead him on the boat had
driven off. Mr. Mcknight came
next, a 'id s artei to drive off. As
lie did so the apron of ihe lioa:
moved, which frightened one of
the horses, and they both ran off
of the apron on the upper side.
The buggy top was up, and the
vehicle followed the horses into
t'ie water, which at this point is
very deep. Mr. Mcknight sprang
out, aod with some difficulty
reached the shore He then ran
upon the loat and with the ferry
man seized the horns' heads, they
having been washed down against
the ferry-lioat, but the buggy hhd
been drawn underneath the boat,
and the force of the current drew
the horses under also. They came
up some ditance below, hut Boon
disappeared and were both
drowned.
They were both fine blooded
mares and were valued at f2000.
The bugty, to which the horses
were still attached, was recovered
an hour later.
S ich an accident, viewed in the
light of the already loud demand
for a wagon bridge at this city,
shoii d hasten the arrangements
for the building of this much
needed public improvement.

MANGLED BY A TRAIN.

Near the place wheie the lrair

From this it is surmised that he
might possibly have been intoxi
