The Albany Board f Trade Jehu in - lk lig for liMiit U Org . t The Albany t.ard of Trade met j vi tiic viy wuin.il iinut.TiOL, in call me-ting yesterday morning to consider the request of the chamber of commerce of Portland, j w v" ( .11 with other citi-s of the in asking our representatives w join state in in congiess to urge tnat aneween- sua ot ue state o tanen as tie i same has been, in many places o imperfectly done that the state will be deprived of an additional i-ongressman, 10 which she ia no doubt entitled. The secretary was by vote ordered to telegraph our representatives to urge imme diate action n the promises. This action is no doubt correct as far as Portland, and some other portions of the state, are concerned, especially in southern Oregon, but it would seem a needless ex pense, as well as a reflection upon the enumerators to take a new count of the entire state, for in many places the count has been accurately- taken and no recount is needed. The best way would seem to be to grant a recount in those places where there is good reason t believe the census has not been properly taken. There is no doubt but that Ore gon's populatiou is much greater than is shown by the census, and the only way to correct it is by a re count in the districts where it has b-en badly taken. While the census in Albany has been very accurately taken, the people of this city will do all in their power to aid in correcting mistakes elsewhere. A new cen sus in Albany would show practi cally the population already given by the enumeration juxt com pleted. It is not likely that a re count will be granted. Blllotta Voyagare Ta-alajht. WhUtltBgfar Seals. In a note in theAmerican Natur alist Mr. F. F. Payne of Toronto recalls an interesting fact, which came under his notice during a prolonged stay at Hudson strait. ''Here," be says, "the Eskimo might be seen lying at full length at the edge of an ice-floe, and al though no seals could be seen they persistently whistled in a low note similar to that often used in call ing tame pigeons, or, if words can express my meaning, like a plain tive 'few-ew, few-ew,' the find note being prolonged to about three seconds. If there were any seals within hearing distance they were invariably attracted to the spot, a:id it was amusing to see them lifting themselves as high as pos sible out of the water, as though thoroughly delighted with the mu sic. Here they wouldremain for soinetime, until one.pt rhapsa little more venturesome than die rest, would come within striking dis tance of the Eskimo, who, starting to his feet, would often change the seal's tune of joy to Borrow. The whistling had to be continuous, and was more effective if perform ed by another Eskimo a short dis tance back from the one lying mo tionless at the edge of the ice. A iMkjr Boy Flxherman. A living ttalmon of that weight is no asy matter for a full grown and rotnat man to handle, and the terrible struggle between the hVb and the boy mav be more easily imagined than described. And it is no wonder Mr. Vianen is proud of that hoy, says the New W estminster Columbian. A If IDHUMMKfc ITEM. Bobbo Pointer That Will Save Money to Houaakeapora.
