There is no longer any douM us to the richness of these mines, and the Albany Mining & Milling Co. has fubscriled ttie necessary money and are going to work them. They are not selling stock but are'putting in machinery to operate the mines. Tne recent rich discoveries up the Santiam has caused much excitement among the miners, and their is every reason to believe that they will prove a veritable bananza. Capi. E. D. Haven, of Browns ville, is also in the city. He is iatereted in the mines up the Calapooia. He states that the ehowars of Iat winter caused a big land slide which uncovered a ledge of free milling silver ore, and that he has located 10 claims for a Portland company. A trail is being cut into the Calapooia mines, which are rich in both gold and silver. A boat Hops. Geo. W. Hubbard.ofTustinCity California, has been in the city the past week He says the hop crop in the Willamette valley is very good tnis year, in some parts being a little below the averxge and in others a little above. A fev hops are now being contracted at 17 ! cents but the growers are slow to contract their hops, as most of them ft el assured that at least 20 cents can be obtained by holding on awhile. Great care hhould be taken in drying to insure the high est market price. Eugene Regis ter. Pioneer Lady Dead. The wife of Rev. James Pearl died at their home in Halsey July 31, 1890, after a protracted illn. es, in the 63d year of her Die. Mrs. Pearl was a pioneer of 1852, re siding in Linn county cince then. where she was respec ed and beloved by all. She was the mother of ten children, about half of whom survive her, together with her husband, now 83 years of a-.e.
