THE NAPERV1L1E INJUNCTION CASE To tii Editor or Tin Herald: Please allow me a little space in your paper in order to point out the deception.. o.ce more, in the NaperviLe iuj j.. :tion case. In the Utk.vi.uof July lOtti there appeared an article taken from the 'fcvangelical" the "minority sheet" claiming to be the decision of Judge Smiiii. And in tiie Herald of July 15th I published an answer to the above t-o-callt d decision, giving the decision of Judge Siuiih in its legal form as it is recorded upon the records of the court, ray ooject wa4 to hov your readers the deception on the part of the "uiinoiity" in publishing th private opinion of Mr. Smith and not giving your readers any p.irt -A 'the decision of the court, ivhu nov cones Mr. J. Bowersox and in referring to my answer, calls it "A Mistake." What's a mistake? He. Bowersox, says, ' Dubs in bis paper issued June 12 closed tne article, of Judge Smith's decision with this paragraph. "The court decides that the in junction shall remain, but it ought io oo attended with a bond. Now this, Bowersox, with Dubs, and their "sht-et", uould palm off as .lie decision ot Judge Sn-ith The iollowing is the decision of Jud,i ; Smith in its legal form, and is so entered upon the rccoids of the court, once more. "At Chambeks. June 3, I89tt. "The Hon.C. W. Upton, Judge ot the 12th Judicial Circuit, having req iested me to hear (he motion to dissolve the injunciiou heretofore issued in this cause, and having lull heard the matt er it is ordered that the motion to dissolve the injunction is over-ruled, but it is turther ordered that complainants give a good and sufficient, bond in the sum of two thousand dollars in 10 oays to be approved by the clerk oi the Circuit Court of Du Page county, and upon failure1 to give such bond there in that court ttiis injunction shall stand dis solved' "C. B. Smith. Your readers may now judge for themselves whether the Evan gelical," Dubs ai.d Bowersox, have given the decision of Judge Stni h, or I who am def'-nding the church. And although the injunction was not dissolved in ;his case, never theless a great majority ol the con gregation, more than two-thuds, recognize and worship' with the Loyal pastor who was appointed by Bishop Esher, while only a few go with the minority pastor and too in the same cnurch, to tlu-y, the minority have gained ncihing, only that tne Loy.d trustees are enjoined from prohibiting the min ority man from preacning in the chuich until general conference shail order otherwise. Perhaps s iue of your readers will ask, out will the general con ference order otherwise? Your dear readers may judge from the iollowing: The Evangel. cal as.o ciation consists of 24 annual con ferences. Twenty-one of the 24 have stiong majoiiiies in favor of the church, and not a few of the 21 ate unanimous and solid loal to the church, and have ly strong resolutions epoken in plain terms on this question, Mistaining Bishops Esher and Bowman,; de claring the so-caded trial confer ences and suspension of ihtse two bishops illegal and a farce, heme every sooer-ihinking man can tee Mhat will be the complexion of the next general conference. Yt s, there will be an overwhelming majority in the general coniereiice against this wicked rebellion, brought about by the leaders of the minority party in our church, euice there are only three annual conferences out of the U4 that have a majority in favor of this rebellion. ' Permit me to point out another fact. It is not generally known by people who are not members of our church that the minority party is preparing to organize a new oV nomination, and many of our people even are yet in the dark on this point, but their secret plans and shameful deception are be coming known more and more. A number of our people all over the church are getting their eyes opened and are leaving their ranks. Even two preacher in the Des Moines conference, who at the late conference session went off with the seceders and ignored Bishop Bowman, have come out in the Evangelical Messenger of July 8th in r. public statement de claring they have been deceived, but. now that the secret plan of the minority party are becoming know n, and finding they are or ganising a new church, these two men have publicly asked to be re instated, etc., wi-hing to remain with-the Evangelic.il association. Now this "m nority" element in the church have a pet feet right to organize another church if they think another denomination is needed, and it they are not willing to submit to the majority of the ch.irch and her regulations, let them, like honest men, withdraw and organize ; but they have no right to deceive the people. I could give many more facts that wouldopen the eyes of the people, but my article is getting too long, so wid let this suffice for the present I wish it to be un derstood that I am only defending the church. 1 shou d no; have written a 1 m'-for the paper had it not been that the "minority" symt athi'trs have published suit deceptive aitii-i'-s, which need-id corre.-ting Yours in defense of the chur h.
