There has been such a demand, and the demand has so increased that thoy are compelled to place a salesman on the road, ami now are receiving orders for Albany manufactured goods from St. Louis, New lore, Philadelphia, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago, and already having received the second orders from some of these houses pince their sidesman arrived in the east, and as Mr. Mover related their plans and prospected success he became very enthusiastic for the future welfare of the Albany mills and the city of Albanv. A Grand Schema. The Balem Journal says that the Oregon Pacific Railroad company could increase its revenues and at the same time provide a conven ient means of pleasure and recrea tion to many people of the valley, by putting on a special train from Albany east to the mountains ev ery Saturday evening and back Monday morning. As now ar range'!, a person going by train to the upper Santiam country has to stay in Albany over night, and cannot go up the O. P. at all Hun day, so that hundreds who would avail themselves of a weekly chance such as above suggested are now deterred from so doii g. There are targe numbers of Salem people, and presumably of other towns, who cannot afford the time to go for a week or two to the mountains, who would like to go occasionally during the summer if thev rould do so in the manner suggested. A riaa Plaything for the Children A Dalles paper has the follow ing: Edward Rogers and Milner Mc lin, who live on a ranch five miles from V ia, went out on a hunt a few ago. They spied a large cougar, fully seven feet long, sticking its head above a log McLain fired and killed it. It had no sooner fallen over, when another sprang up, which was killed also. The men then went to the place where the animals fell, and found four young cougars and tried to catch them alive, but all got away but one. The other three were shot. The cougar kit ten is now on the ranch and is quite playful, and a favorite with the children. Daa Completed. His salary is to be $1000 a year and 50 per cent., of the fees collected for establishing new lodges. ThiB is no "fish lie ; it is the earnest, ober truth. E. O. Four Little Jack Horner, The Baker City Review says hat Dr. J. W. Strange, supervisor f census for the second district of Oregon, last Tuesday, announced the approximated population of the four leading cities of eastern Jregon,as follows: The Dallesl3000 Pendleton 2600, Baker City and LaGrande, each 2,MX). These igures are not up t. what was ex pected bv some and not what was expected by the supervisor him--elf, but w.'.rk is generally conceded to have i i-ii done by the various enumerators. To say that t he people of Baker City were sur prised by ttie ngures representing her populuti -n, would be Btating it mildly, but if a re-count was leemed advisable, the next ques tion would be, "Where can we find i mote careful or capable man than Mr. J.
