If he can not be at nome when the enumerator calls he should leave a proper memo randum in the hands of his wife r other member of his bonsehold. -o that the work of the census may not lie delayed. alo that there may lie no doubt as to accuracy of the statements concerning ins service which mat be iven to the census numerator. That there may be no question us to the joints to be covered by the memo randum, it may b. well to state that the special inquiries to be made concerning veterans of the civil war include the nam.:, the company, and the regiment or vessel in which they served, their late rank, the dates of enlistment ami discharge, the lenirth of service in year, months, and days, and their present post-otiieo address. 'Where n soldier or ailor re-enlisted or served in more than one organization or vessel, he should be very careful to give the term of service in ach in stance, and to cover each enlist ment. In giving the organization care should bo taken o dis tinguish the arm of the service. :w in infantry, cavalry, artillery, etc., and if a person served under an assumed name, hi-, statement fhould be made to cover both the name under which he served and the true name by which he is now known.
