Wasco Observer: Our Grant's
correspondent reports a fatal acci
dent as havingoccurred last Friday
evening at the John Day fish wheel
recently constructed by M. A.
McKay, at the mouth of the John
Day. Mr. McKay and a hired man
were working at th? wheel when
the boat in which they were
standing got loose end begun to
drift under the wheel. Mr. McKay
had presence of mind enough to
jump onto the wheel and was
saved but got badly bruised. The
hired man being a good swimmer
jumped into the water, but he was
dragged under the w heel by the
current - and was drowned. He
was a stranger in the neighborhood
and his name is not known.

This was the way the first man
had it. He had simply been told
that a ticket was coining out. Tub

A reporter met Hmon and asked
him about the rumor. The ex-
chairman was verv much amused.
"It seems," he said "that when
