The Sunset Telephone company is asking for a franchise for Al bariy. If they do not give a better serv ice than their present system in Salem they will be pretty much of a nuisance. Salem Statesman. E. K. Piper, of Seattle, is in the city. He has resigned his position on the Post-Inteiligencer, ai d will start a newspaper at Gray's Harbor, in which he will be assisted by his brother, George Piper. A Ministerial association oi the M. E. church, of the Eugene dis trict, has been in session at Harris burg this week. About twenty ministers were in attendance and an interesting meeting was held. W. B. Gilson has accepted the agency of the San Francisco Chron icle. It will be delivered to sub scribers at 15 cents per week, in cluding the Sunday issue.
