A new Babietry was put in the church last week The protracted meeting closed with twenty-seven conversion, five being students. It has been decided to name the new town Talmage, which has been laid out between this place and Independence. The Pansy society, composed of the little girls of the public school, between the ages of eight and twelve, sent an iuvitation to the Normalitt-s to attend their enter tainment at the opera house Saturday evening. The Utopians elected the follow ing officers for the ensuing term, Iva Templeton, president; Klla Emmet, Vice-president ; Jess Waldron secretary ; Ada Redford, Assistant secretary; Jennie McPherson Corresponding secre tary; Cecil McCuloo, aud Myra Smith Editors; Cora Smith, Martial ; Tilitha Miles, Critic. The S. S. convention held here this week was well attended, Rev. N. Shupp of the Evangelical church was elected president for the ensuing year l'rof.l. L. Camp bell Vice-president, Co. Superin tendent, W. I. Revnolds, secretary Rev. Wells of the First Presby terian church, lectured on 8. V. work the last evening. This being the first convention held in the county it was mnch better attend ed than was anticipated, and was rjuite a success. Twenty-one dele gates from abroad were present. The disturbance at tho Normal is iiuieting down, about the scan dal of President and Prof. Doughty. The trustees were called in and after forty-eight hours examina tion could find no positive evidence of any improper conduct on the part of the professors. The boys were dismissed from school who I started the report. President I Stanley afterwards resigned his position as president of the O. 8. N. S. and his resignation accepl vet oi een appointed.
