The people here are in earnest about getting a bridge. Insane Man. Wm. Carstens was brought in yesterday from Tangent, and ex amined before the county court for insanity, the examining physicians being Dr. G. W. Maston "and Dr. D. M. Jones. His mania was in the suicide line, having tried to kill himself with a razor and also hai-inur attempted drowning. He .vas pronounced insane and will be taken to the asylum to-day. .JUNCTION CITY ITEMS. Section Foreman Moore, and family left for Kansas on last Saturday. Kcenoy's oiiice last evening, and the showing of the company was excellent. Election of directors resulted in re-electing nearly all of the old lxard. The directors for the ensuing year are : C. G. Burkhart, S. E. Youns, C. II. Stewart, J. A. Gross, E.F. Sox, L. Flinn and W. II. (ioltra. No further business was trans acted, awaiting the election of offi- i cers by the lxard after thev have ' have qualified. ! ANOTIIEIt FIOXKEK ONK. Mrs. Marictte I'almer Shepard, lied Feb. 22, 1890. Maiiette Palmer was born in Delhi, Deleware Co., New York, May 18, 1834, and was married to Mr. Wm. Shepard on Christmas, lool. in the following year she crossed the plains with her hus band, and in the fall of 1852 they j established their home on 4he Donation claim, already taken by Mr. Shepard, on the banks of the Willamette four miles above Peoria, Linn Co. Here they raised their family of four girls and two boys, and were permitted to enjoy life together nearly forty years. Mrs. Shepard professed her faith in Christ in the Willam ette U. 1'. church in 1853, and was a member in good standing in the U. P. church at I lalsey at the time of her death. She was an affectionate wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a hospitable friend. A good woman, theesteen in which she was held was well attested by the very large circle of friends who attended her funeral Feb. 24. "Blessed are the deall who die in the Lord." T. J. We arc last recovering from the effects of the !Uod, but the old fashioned ferry will run for a while. We are making every effort possible to give the (i. A. R. en campment next week a rousing welcome. Our county tax the- past year was 18 mills, and the damage by floods, etc,, will probably make the coming year's taxes still heavier. Everybody sympathizes with the relatives of youtig Salt marsh of your city. Pity that the destroy ers of the happiness of families could not all be exterminated. Our neighboring town of Spring field is fairly booming now. They say it is sure to be a railroad cen ter. Real estate is jumping I suppose with joy. People here are indignant, be yond measure at the fearful death of Millie Waud, who was left with a babe only a day or two old, to perish from want. Her distardly husband being within a quarter of a mile or so. This happened near Cottage drove. One of the most enthusiastic school meetings ever held in Eu gene has just occurred. It was voted to build a $12,000 school house the coming summer in the west part of town, and the neces sary tax was levied. The sum of $5)00 was also voted to buy another lot for school purposes in the east part of town. We have in Eugene now 1000 children between 4 and 20 by the exact census just taken.
