any monumental tablet.
lie consented, and orders were
given for the monument. The
bite was chosen and the work was
well advanced, when for some
unexplained reason the lady mar
ried another and the jilted man,
to whom tdie was engaged, on
hearing this news, immediately
ordered that all work on the monu
ment be stopped, and stopjied it
was.

Tor over a week past crowds
have been flocking to the site of
the unearthed Indian .graveyard
near bdgewater avenue in l'ieas
antville. The, first lot of skeletons
unearthed was about 1000 yards

fact that it must have been the

the owners of the land, gave to
the archaeological association of
the University of Pennsylvania
the right to Beach for relics on
their land.' These researches have
been watched by thousands of
people with great interest. Be
sides weapons of war, . ravage
ornaments war decorations and
numerous valuable shells, stones.
etc., over hfty skeletons -have
been exhumed. .
"Dr. Charles R. Abbott, curator
of the, association, is ..continuing
the search, and the skeletons are
to be shipped to the university at
once, l hey run in size: Irom -a
small child to a several of seven
feet in height, and one, supposed
to be an old medicine man, V ann
heck, must have been at least eight
feet in height. Aoout : fifty fctu-
dents were upon the ground this
morning and continued their
search until stopped by the rain.

der on these relics of a race that
at one time ruled the land For
seven miles along the shore can
be seen large mounds of clam and
oyster shells left here by Indians
who used to congregate by han

iood, and it is near these shell
mounds that the great number of
EKeietons have been taken up.
