IT DRIVES MEN CRAZY. Boston, Dec. 31. Geo. B.Sniith, f2 year3 of age, a watchman at the Massachusetts state prison, suicided this morning while insane from an attack of la grippe. 8TII.L SPREADING. Vienna, Dec. 31. The influenza is increasing and the board cf health has ordered the schools closed until Jauuary 7. The hos pital rooms are so crowded that it has been found necessary to erect a special structure for those suffering from the disease. RAILROAD DISASTER., w Two Trains Crash lata) Each Otktr With Fatal Results. Indianapolis, Dec.31. A fright ful and fatal wreck occurred near Koko, Mo., this morning on ttV Pan-Handle railway. The north bound train, conductor Thomas Lamp, left the junction on sched ule time. One mile north it met the south bound train, conductor V. D. lS'oland. running at a speed of fifty miles an hour. The two trains crashed together with terrific force, totally demolishing the two engines and burning the baggage car of the south bound train, which fell on top of the two engines. Ueorge Cu minings, engineer of the ) south bound tram, was killed, Ihos. McCullough, engineer of the north bound train, cannot live, Baggage Master J.J. Kerlin was killed, Thos. Harbor and Express' Mes senger Grant were seriously hurt, and two men named Woods and Webb were slightly injured. The passengers in the coaches were badly shaken up. The cause of the accident is unknown, but the general opinion is that the north bound engineer was trying to make a "sneak" to a side track four miles further north, so as to pass the south bound, which was behind time. THEIR FATR UKKNOIYN. YasHel Abaadoaod at Iter Crow Lost. Hen sad Halifax, Dec. 31. The Allan lino steamer Nestorran, after a stormy passage of twenty days from Glasgow, arrived last even ing. On Wednesday morning, Dec. lbth, ia north latitude 54 deg. 15 min., west longitude 25 deg. 44 min., the German chip Shake speare, from Hamburg to New York, was sighted in a disabled condition and signaling for assist ance. The sea was so rough that the Nestorian was compelled to lay near her all night. The cap tain and crew of the Shakespeare wished to be taken off. The next morning the Shakespeare was no where visible. What became of her crew is bard to say, but the mail si earner Sardinia, which ar rived yesterday, passed the Shake speare on Dec. 22d in latitude 54 deg. 21 min., longitude 20 deg. 7 min. She appeared to have beeu recently abandoned. Browaia(') Funeral. Lonoon, Doc. 31. The funeral service of Robert Browning took place at Westminster Abbey vo-day. The body was placed in a polished pine coffin on which was a f mall brass plate bearing the dates of his birtn and dath. Wreaths from Tennyson and Miss Browning were placed on the colli n.
