The prejudice against Mil ler there is very strong. OVR NAVY ABROAD. Admiral Walker's Squadron Reaches Portugal. Lisbon, Dec. 22, The man ot-war Yorktown, of the United States squadron, had not arrived hero up to neon to-day. Admiral Walker re ports that the non-arrival ia due to severe weather. The Chicago ex change salutes with tbe land batteries and Admiral Walker paid an official visit to the Portuguese officers. The squadron will remain for ten days and W11 then go to tbe Mediterranean. NO ANXIETY FOB THE YORKTOWN. The squadron has behaved admira bly, The vessels made the voyage under an easy bead of steam in order to economize coal. No anxiety is felt for the Yorktown. Admiral Walker giyes her two days in which to arrive, tie thinks 6be may have put into Fayal or possibly has met with a slight mishap, While anchoring, te Chicago snapped her chain and lost her bed anchor. Croup C'au Be Prevented. We want every mother to know that croup con be pi evented. Jherc is no question about this ; :is it has been clone in thousands of cases, and you may depend upon it that when 8 cnild takes ttie croup it is Mholly owin to the negligence of lits parent?. This hoarseness is the first indication of croup, and is a sure sign that croup is to follow, unless promptly and propcily treated. Chu Foug, Chinese interpreter and casi.ivi- of Kwong Hong Long & Co., Mutt street, atd pait owner of a big Japa nese store on Broadway, who was also to start a Chinese bank, has suddenly disappeared with the fands of several Chinese firms. Uismisappropriain us, so far as ia known, amount to about $25,000. Several 'American firms have also been victimiz id. A hurried examina tion of the bank accounts of several Chinese firms also shows that Chu Fong forged the names of a haif dozen firms, including the Josshouse Associ ation, for $15,500. Other victims-ara btill being heard from; as Fong's American friends and business acquaintances do not yet knew of his sudden departure. Ic is alleged that be has left for Canada and taken all ths cash that he could raise upon his business at 830 Broad way, where he was only a part owner, but in which he1 had a con trolling interest. There' is a branch of this store in San Francisco. The Quong Hong Long firm is man aged by his uncle, who is the heaviest loser. Chu Fong has taken with him a pretty American girl, on who., ic count, it is alleged, he committed some of the forgeries with which he is charged. She is said to be tho daughter of a Brooklyn real estate man. Chu Fong is 27 years old and is of larger build than the average China man, fie dressed in the height of American fashion,, with his hair cut short.
