New York, Dec. 16. Dr. Esou,
of the health board, to-day reported
that there had been discovered in this
city eight cases of foreign influenza.
Tha first victim, a young laey, as
taken down Thursday last. It is sup
posed she contracted the disease from
a family who returned from Eun-pu a
few days ago. Her first symotn
was vertigo, speedily followed by
headache and chills. Then she be
came deathly tick with pains i her
limbs and muscles. This was succeed
ed by bronchial catarrh, eoreuv s of
the throat and coughing, followed by
a high fever and an exceedingly rapid
pulse, which at times reached 1'?'' to
the minnte. Since then seven ti,r
members of the family have been at
tacked by tho disease. The b-!th
officers say it is not dangerous, t"it if
it tends to become epidemic a'l
