Helena, Oct. S. The election of Joseph M. Toole, democrat, for governor is now conceded by a majority of from oOO to GOO. Carter, republican, for congress has 1000 majority, and the demo crats c aim the legislature by seven. The republicans will not concede as much, Hut Bay on a fair count of the returns it is demo cratic, but claim fraud in Silver- bow and Deer Lodge counties, lhe general opinion is that there will be no contest and that the demo crats will have the governor and the legislature, whib the republi cans elect a congressman and a large majority of the state ticket. The Independent claims the sen ate is a tie and the house by seven I majority. Most of the counties make an official canvass to-day and the result will be definitely knwn this evening. The da' was line, roads good and although it was a busy seeding time lor the farmers, a full repre sentation was in attendance, and the line new hall of ilarrisburg grange at Muddv station was well tilled. The agent of lhe council, J. ti. Powell, was present from Ids new home in Lane county and gave good advice in the line of his duty as agent. lion. F. M. Kizer, piesident of the council, was promptly in his place, and in the absence of the secretary, M. H. Wilds was ap pointed secretary pro tem. A resolution looking to the future advancement of the order was offered by J. Clem and refned to the committee on good of the ordei to report af'er dinner. Dr. J. F. Hendrex offered a reso lution instructing the secretary to ask the superintendent of the ap proaching U. S. census enumera tion to add to the list of subjects to be enumerated the one to ascertain how many of the farmers of tke nation live upon their own land and how many live upon rented farms, which resolution was adopted. J. A. J. Crow, of Lane county, gave some good remarks. He was followed by L. C. Bice, Mart Miller, Hon. K. A. Irvine, Judge K. 1. Bolbe, Hon. S. A. Dawson and others w ith remarks pertinent to the good of the order. Adjournment was taken to par take of a bountiful dinner, to which full justice was done, and the council again assembled for work. The committee on good of the order on Clem's resolution re ported favorably, recommending its adoption. The report was dis cussed by Wild, Clem, T. Froman, Crow, of Lane, J. Wigle, Dawson and others and was adopted. A communication from 1'. B. Marshall, secretary of the council, explaining his absence was read and placed on file. NOTES FKOH CROOK COl'NTT. Ochaco Review, Oct. 5. J. O. Douthit, recently appoint ed stock inspector of this county, has returned from the Willemette Valley, and will enter upon the discharge of his official duties next week. Percy Davis and Mrs. J. F. Moore returned last Tuesday from Albany. During his stay below Mr. Davis visited Yaquina Bay and a number of the towns of im portance in the Willamette Val ley. Thousands of dollars have been gpent by residents of this county in Albany and Eugene for supplies this season. lhe parties who have gone to those towns to do their trading claim to have made money by so doing. Several parties have passed through here from Kansas this week, going to the Willamette Valley. They sav crops have been almost a failure in Kansas the past three or four years, and the only alterative left them was to migrate or starve. A replevin case was tried in Justice Lusk's court last Wednes day, in which B. Isenhott sued A. Senders for the iiossession of a backboard bought by Mr. Scndeis of Allen Henrv and alleged to be the property of the plaintiff. Iseii hott got judgment for the buck- board. Owing to the failure of witnesses to get here the preliminary exam ination of the Gottfried brothers, charged with the murder of Shields Looney, did not come up until last Monday, when the case was heard before Justice Luckey, J. F. Mcare appearing for the' prosecution, and G. W. Barnes and J. N. Duncan for the defense.
