Autheiitw information about the rent riots on Navassa Island ires received last night in a letter Irom Dr. Smith, acting superintendent ef the Na vassa Phosphate Company, who, with C- W. lloby, mine boss, and one other oliicers.are the only sur viving ollicers of the bloody affair. They have taken refuge " on the British man-of-war "Forward," which came to their assistance. Dr. Smith writes that on the morning of the 14th of September the negroes rose in insurrection and killed four of them. N. Foster, Joseph .bales, Jas. Mason,: Y in. T. Shea, lioby was the first assaulted in the digging and was left for dead. At noon the men congiegated in front of the super intendent's house and refused to work. When Jones attempted to arrest one of the ringleaders he was knocked down and in a few minutes a howling mob surround ed him. He managed to get to the house, where the other ollicers had sought shelter, though a vol ley of rocks and other missies were hurled at him. He took refuge in the rear of the superintendent's house and opened fire on the mob The battle lasted three hours, with an occasional negro wounded, when the inmates were startled bv the explosion of a dynamite bomb on the lower porch. This was soon foiiewd by another, until there was a continued roar of dynamite. When the officers at tempted to seek another shelter Foster was butchered with knives and Joseph Fales was chopped to nieces with jixcs. William Shea and Jarneh Mahone were also mur dered. The cabins occupied by Princess Beatrice (or by any priucess who happens to be travel ing with the Qaeen) are aft ot her Majesty's duartera, and on the other side of the corridor are the Cabins of the Princess and a large bathroom.
