THE rilKSIIIKXT'S VACATION. He Will Be at Deer LPark .Uctil Octets -An Ixportact Land De cision. Special Corresjiondeiice. Washington, July 22. Some ; 1 c k h c; it irilt-l): rcnienibeud n in rye delcyatinn of antiJlalione it-publicans visited the 1'rc.sii.lent to ask Hint ilic:r faction of the uuty be y:cn recognition iu the distribution of the federal patron nyc in the State. Of course the President told iheni that he cou id not aDd would not recognize any party faction i.i Virginia or any other state and incidentally he asked why both tactions did not submit the questions upon which they differed to the Republican National committee and let that bdy decide them. They ex pressed a willingness to do so, and Gen. Mahone showed an equal readiness t have the National Committee decide the mutter. In accordance with this understanding Messrs. Quay ClarksoD, Dudley Feasendin and Hobard of the National Committee met in this city to hear both tides. Both par ties presented copies of a eall, to be issued to the republican voters of Virginia, lor a state convention to nominate a Governor and other ofiiccrs, and both were represented before the committee by the lead ing men in their ranks. The hear inr lasted all day and all night. The committee then conferred with the President and it was unani mously decided to throw out both "calis"' and issue a new one sui) stanliaijy rhat presented bj Mali one. The decision was ac cepted by both sides and they returned home determined to carry the State lor the nominee cf the Convention. Immediately follow ing the decision the President appointed Col. J. C. Brady, who has been the leader of the anti Mahonites, Collector cf internal revenur for the fourth (Richmond; district, and P. II. McCall a red hot Mahone man, Collect:' for the Sixth distr.ct. It is general'y recognized by both parties that the party is now really united in the Old Dominion. If t lie sanu comtition of affairs had existed la.-t November the vote of the St:;tc would have been cast for Harrison and Morton. The President, Mrs. Harrison and private secreiary IIallini Lft Washington for Deer Park Satur day afternoon. The President's vacation programme, subject ol c:urse to cli uge, is as follows: He will remuin at Deer Park two weeks and shea return to this city for several days, after which he will go to Bar Harbor to spend two weeks with Secretary Blaine. He wili tiieti return to Washington lor a few days before going to Deer Park to remain until about the first of October. M. M. Hurley formerly post master at New Albany, Indiana has been appointed Third Auditor of the Treasury. All of the ac counting offices of that department are now republicans. A small iatch of consular ap pointments wero made on Satur day and it was stated that no more would be made until Secretary Blaine's return in the fall. Major Prudeo, the President's executive clerk, has presented Mis. McKee a certificate of the Baptism of her infant daughter which took place in the White House une 1 It is a marvel ot penmanship, b- ing executed by hand in red black and gold. It bears the signature of John Witherspoore Scott (Mrs Hairisou'a father) the officiating Clergyman, and of the following as witnesses: Benjamin- Uarrh-on, Secretary Blaine, Windom, 'Noble and Tracy, Postmaster General Wanamaker, Attorney General Mil ler and private secretaty Halford. In the years to come that certifi cate will be a valuable document. Secretary Noble has sustained a decision of the late Land Commis sioner Sparks that eight years must elapse from the planting of trees on the public lands to entitle an entrymentto a patent under the timber culture law. The need of a residence for the President and his family separate from the public offices in the White House is again being dis cussed. It grows more pressing each year as the growth of public business makes greater encroach -ments upon the private portion of tbe White House. Congress could not do a more popular thing thtn to ii rovide tor the building of a; suitable residence for tae President, something in keeping with tiic wealth and grandeur o'j'he country. The State department has re ceived a letter from Lx-Uougress-11 an Hoar declining the Consulship a Valnaraisa. Many have been mummifie I in contorted attitudes, as if they had died in convulsions, but the ghastliest interest of all attaches to the remains of an anonymous I'rinee, who appears to have been embalmed alive and up on whose mummy reports are fur nished by Dr. Fouuet and M. Mathey. The brain, heart, stomach, etc., of this unfortunate man are in tact, as in life. The body was found tightly. bound in three places, namely, round the shoulders, round the wrists and loins and round the feet, these ligatuies being drawn with such force as to leave deep furrows in the flesh. This done, he appears to have been covered with a thick coat of bitumen, lime and pounded resin, and to have been enwound from heail to foot with l andaues soaked in sumo glutmou. prepuratiou which caused tlie:iito adhere with such' tenacity that they had to he sawed off. The agonized expression of the face, the open mouth, the swollen ard knotted mucks l.ear witness to his desperate Still; and to the horrors of his last a.'ony. Hi3 age was a'lout twenty-three, and in his ears were small gold tarings. That he was a personage of high rank ami the victim of some unspeakable tragedy admits of 110 doubt; but to his name, and parentage and to the circumstances of his fate no clew remains.
