"The Astoria & South Coast

The road is to be built about a mile
farther than originally contem

is known as "tho Gearhart woods"
and extends to the Ocean house,

to be paid in. The Pacific Con

amount of stock in Astoria & South
Coast Railway Company. That
$200,000 in stock is to be placed in
the hands of D. K. Warren as
trustee. Work is .to be pushed
with all diligence and the road is
to be completed as rapidly as possi

the proposed pre.-ent terminus in
the most direct route to the Xe

Keeping -ap 'With (he Times.
In order to keep pace with the
rapid growth of this city, and the
necessity of having absolutely cor
rect time, our enterprising jeweler,
F. M. French, has just purchased
and set up one of eth Thomas
standard regulators, fitted with a !
lo pound mercurial pendulum,
which is a positive protection
a ;ainst variation in time from the
effects of heat or cold. One can
easily see the nicety of the adjust
ment from the fact that the clock
quires a 3'..' pound weight to run
it. Mr. French? has made arrange

The San Francisco Chronicle of the

Mattie Vickers, as the principal at

The piece is one of these written
to be a vehicle for the soubrette
specialties of which some people
never tire and which everybody
likes. Mattie Vickers is a very
charming and capable soubrette!
star. She sings and dances well;
she has some very attractive music,
and she is an actress of decided
ability. The dances, songs and
