Exhaustion Treated l.y
Electricity.
Nervous exhaustion implies a
want of strength to a certain nerve
r iserves ou the entire nervons
system V hear tile words debility
or gcnei 1 debility every diy. It is
frequently pa kc1 by as meaning
nul'uitij, yet it lueaus a great leal.
Sometimes we see it person tJeehy and
to ail appearauuu enjoying good
health, ami yet they are iar iroiu it,
' tt ey may have a reasonable appetite,

etid is not vet, sooner or later comes
nerves, not ouly to but dyspepsia in
many ot its forms with constipation
are atliibatablo to the same cause.
Spinal irritation with all its eff-shoote
and great variety of formidable
symptoms can very frequently be
traced to the cause sbjve mentioued,
with many forms of insanity aud a
ho.it of other moladies too numerous
to menliou. How often the human
suflorcr is denounced as melancholy
or hypocondnc.il because the general
physical appearance would indicate
health when indeed their suffering it
beyond our comprehension. Very
frequently in secret and in silence
they endure the moet excruciating
paiu and anguish both in body and
mind and without sympathy, because
if they should make their ailments
known their friends would make fun
of them and sometimes! even the
doctor. O, that we could only
lathoin the invasion of disease in the
deep recesses ot the nerves, bow
much more proficient would we be in
relieving humau affliction. As long
as we take sight for facts and- do not
remember the secluded attacks upon
the most important system of
the body, the nerves, many of our
tutl'erers will pass along unheeded
and be the object of fuu and ridicule.
We have observed those who to
look at presented perfect health but
time would reveal that deep seated
disease was preying upon tho nerves
and when t o late, our patients earner
would terminate iu insanity or in
death, therefore let us take heed and
hea -ken to tho cries ot the human suf
tertrs although in physical appearance
we would prosuuie them to be
healthy. In the treatment ot this
elites of maladies, the first object
should I c to begin treatment early in
liio formation ot the disease. All ot
t'lo reliable influences that tend to

conceL'trated is the treatment -uch

"The Capita! of Spanish America."
Yzalco, in the little republic of
San Salvador, is in many respects
the moat remarkable vol-jano on
earth, find, In-caus? its discharge
have contbsu-jd m long and with such
cn:at regularity: again, because the
tumult in the earth's bowtds is
always to lie heard, as the mumblings
and explosion arc coust-aut, being
audible for a hundred utiles aud
sou::ding like the noise which Kip.
Van Wmklo heard wlu ti he awakened
from his sleep in t!io Catskiils; and
finally, it .is t!'c "ot ly volcano that
has otiginatcd on this continent
since the discovery by Columbus. It
arose suddenly frcm the plain in the
spring of 1770, in the mulct of v hat
had beta for nearly a hundred years
the profitable estate of Scunr Don
Balthazar EraxD, who was absent
from the country at the time, and
was greatly amaze i upon his return
to discover that his magnitieent coffee
and ind:go plantation had, without
his knowledge, or cncnt, been ex
changed for a tirct-class volcano.
In December, 170'?, the peoi.s on
the hacieiida wcro alarmed by territii!
rumblings uue'er the grouud, constaut
tremblings of the earth and frequent
earthquake?, which did not extend
over tho country as usual, but
seemed to be confined to that particu
lar locality. They left tho placo in
terror when the tremblings and
noises continued, ana, returning a
week or two after, found that all the
buildin s had been shaken down,
trees upr oted and large craters
opened in the fields, which had Itceit
level earth before. From these
craters smoke and sUani issued, aud
occasionally flames were, seeu to
come out of the grouud. Some brave
vaqueros or herdsmen romaiucd near
by to watch developments, and on
Frbruary 23, 1770, they were enter
tained by a spectacle that no other
men have been permitted to witness;
for about 10 o'clock on the morning
of that day the grand upheaval took
place, and it seemed to them, as they
fled in terror, that the whole universe
j was being turned upside dowu.
1 irt there was a tcr.ua of terrible
explosions, which lilted the crust of
tho earth several hundred feet, and
out of the cracks issued flames and
lava and immense volumes of smokj.
An hour or two afterward there warn
another and a grander convulsion,
w hich thook and stattled the country
for 1C0 miles around. Rocks weigh
ing thousands of tons were hurled
into the air and fell several leagues
distant. Tho surface of the .arth
was elevated about .'iCOO feet, and the
internal recesses Acre purged of
masses of lava and blistered sion?.
which fell in a heap around the hole
from which they issued.
I he discharges continued lor seve
ral days at incgular intervals, occoni

quakes, which did much damage
throughout the entire republic. The
disturbance was preemptible iu Nicar
