The statistician of the agricul tural department has issued his report . for May, which contains some interesting information re garding the agricultural products of the European nations. The report shows that the foreign markets are not dependent upon the United Status for their supplies. The import of wheat from the United States is only a small part of the wheat consumed in Europe each year, and the same can be said cf corn and most othergrains. Thus, incase the home market is un sound, the American farmer might - find some trouble in disposing of his produce. The report also shows that American farmers should give more attention to the cultivation of flax and hemp. Foreign fibers are . imported into the United States in large quantities, and by growing these products at home millions of dollars could be saved. It is said that the imported fibers, with their manufacture, altogether amount in value to more than two-thirds as much as the cotton exportation of the United states. The report contains valuable advice, which tends to induce our farmers to become more experimental and depart from the old paths which thev have been following. THE NEW STATES. It now seems positive that an element will conce into congress this winter and demand a division of offices in the new states. Dakota will surely have republican mem bers of the upper branch of con gress. Washington will haye one in the lower and two in the upper branch of congress. What Mon tana will do cannot be predicted, but it is probable that she will elect republicans. These men will demand a 6hare of the oflices and make at least partial recognition of their state necessary. Whether new men are put into positions of secretary and serjeant-at-arms or not, from twenty to forty places of a minor chaiacter will be demand ed and secured. These will re quire a very general shake up, and of course the displacement of l he men now in office. If representatives from the new states should join any faction in tke organization of the house, they will cut a figure which will be felt. At any rate, they will come in for a dozen or more pretty food places and republicans from other sections may as well begin to figure to that end, and whoever is elected speak er will be pledged, unless a dark horse is selected, to recognize the new states to the same extent that other States and sections having an equal number of representatives are recognized. unusual," and as such contrary to the constitution of the United States. Here is an item from the Noith China News: One day a sow belonging to Mis. Feng happened to knockdown and slightly injiud the front door of a Mrs. Wang. The latter at once proceeded to claim damages, which were refused whereupon a fierce altercation ensued, which termin ated in Mrs. Wang's threatening to take her own life. Mrs. Feng, upon hearing of this dreadful threat resolved at once to take time by the forelock and steal a march upon her enemy by taking her own life, and thus turn the tables upon her.
