The fire department, becaue of inability to locate the precise spot where the tire whs burning, turned water in at a guess, where the smoke was thickest, and the type and material were badly damaged. Th:- fire originated in a room in the basement to the rear of the couponing room, which is occupied M a sleeping room. W. H. Mill?, au em.pl e of the office, who also has a room io the basement to the rear of tbe press room, was first. to discover it. Before he could set out, being a cripple, he was almost suffocated. The tire must have been burn'iDg for some time before it was dis covered, as the room iu which it originated is completely gutted. The publ'.CH'ion of the pHper wi: be continued without interrupti n. There was insurance on the tjpe and material. The presses were Lot injured . The store room occupied by Minis Bros. & Co. as a musical il 8'.rument and sewing ouchine depot sustained considerable ii.jurj and the instruments ud mach nes are danuged by water. It is exceedingly f'ortun te that the building was of brick, aud the firemen were able to keep the tire inside the walls. The wind was blowing a gale at the time. CALLfcD A HALT. Action Again!
