Railroad service on some of tbe Iowa lines has been so reduced to meet the cut in rates, that stage coach lines are being re-established to accommodate the public. The Trenton lelt Panama for Samoa early iu Janu ary, going at the rate ol seven bach countries our own, lor u: stance this liberty is too otten a mere euphemism for unrestrained license, as witness, in corrobora tion, the rude discussion of family affairs, the imprudentfexposure of "skeletons in the closet," the promulgation of scandals with the indecent details in extenso, the unscrupulous statements vitally affecting character, the misrepre sentations and defamations due to party rancor, one or all ot which j are of daily occurrence in the local or editorial columns of nearly every ne of our so-cilled big dailies. We understand perfectly well that the details of indecent scandals are published for the money their publication brings in return, and that defamations and misrepresen tations are compelled by staunch adherence to party. But these causes do not justify the prostitu tion of journalistic columns to such base uses, and the press of the country should rise to a higher plane. The Albanv Bakery !
