It is perhaps not an unprofitable pastime for individuals to forecast, according to the best evidence hey can adduce, what shall he the outcome of present circum stances, conditions and actions. The environment of our sur roundings may be such as to make it totally impossible to alter, amend or in ? ny manner change the results foreshadowed by exist ing circumstances ; bnt such is the exception and not the rule, for almost universally the determined will .backed up by the careful judg ment' and prompt and incisive action, will master adverse envir onments and create methods of procedure that will lead to more satisfactory results. That the harvest in the moral and intel lectual world, as well as in the physical and naturial world, can be forecasted, shafted almost made j. to order, is a fact that observing people recognize. The business man who employs methods that border upon the grounds of dis honesty to increase his gains, finds, although the pile of golden shekels may be larger, that in the end the results are but the chaff of disap pointment, for the acquisition has warped his moral nature, and i .i:.I--.l ;ntIW..iAlitv. until ! It simply remains with her wide awake and public spirited citizens to accomplish this desirable end, for all of the requisite condition aie at hand, and such will be the results. A small Arkansas town furnishes the latest dueling sensation. A man's wife left him and went to her parents' home. The husband went to see her, but was refused an audience, the mother-in-law meet ing him on the porch, lie com menced abusing her when the father-in-law appeared upon the srene ordering him off. The hus band drew a revolver and com menced firing at the old gentleman, who procured a rifle and returned the fire. Both men were killed. The division of Dakoto seems to be a foregone conclusion, as it is stated that fully four-filths of the people are in favor of the measure. A projected railroad is to be buiit ! from Sioux City, Iowo, to Los An geles, California. Trans-continental lines will be numerous ere long. Mrs.Parsons has made her speech in Chicago in spite of the police. It was made to an audience of four or five hundred socialists. M.tHUIKD.
