marriage of his son to Nora, the
widow gives her consent to the
union of Richard Sparks and Dora,
and all are consequently happy.

New Schooner.
The Corvallis Times says that
the steam schooner beir.g built at
Yaquina City for Paul Schwader is
almost completed and we learn

Chinese Phea-a jIs Mauled.
Messrs. Wills Bros, of this city,
have received an order for a num
ber of Chinese pheasants for
breeding purposes from the citizens
of Marshtield Oregon, and they will
pay 75 cents each for all" the
Chinese pheasants delivered t
them alive, and in good condition
until their order is filled. There i
no law against capturing or keep
ing these birds for breeding pur
poses, and the boys can trap them
and brings them in without fear of
arrest.

Deputy Sheriff Vanny Smith
brought to this city yesterday Geo.
Mahley, whom he had arrested lor
selling whisky without proper
license at Rock Creek on the Jine
of the Oregon Pacific railroad.
Mahley was running a saloon for
Ad. Harmon, and by evading the
license law, it is said, was doing a
thriving business among the rail
road men. His trial will occur
before Justice Humphrey to-day.
