The police statistics for Scotland just published show that the num ber of homeless wanderers in taat VVIIIIM J IVJIVII1I v .. . . - - v. vagrants has doubled in the last ten years. In 1S7S there were 54,2SG of this class; in 1SS.S there are 103.022. These vagrants are what may be called the regular soldiers of the army of Want. Thousands of unemployed working men are constantly swelling the ranks of this army in Scotland. In England this kind of recruiting that has been constantly going on for many years has rapidly in creased ever since Germany and other European countries put up the barriers of protection to shut out British manufactured goods. As there is no disposition on the part of European government to remove these barriers England finds herself face to face with a problem that she must solve if she would avert social and political dangers that threaten her very j - existence. The problem of how to ; obtain a market for her surplus manufactures is the gravest that England has been ever called upon to front. She knows that work must be found for her unemployed or otherwise there will be an upheaval that will rend English political and social institutions to j their verv foundations. i Omaha is a city of peculiarities. One of the latest is a newspaper having two editors., one of each political party, each battling the other and making things lively, it carries the palm of being an oFginal curiosity at least, ami is said to be ably edited on both sides of the house. Wheat in Chicago for the second time this season lus 1 cached the one dollar per bushel mark. There is no reason why wheat should not bring just as much on this coast as in Chicago, excepting that the con trollers of charters advance the price of freight and devour the margin.
