The steamer Three Sisters,which has been in the drv dock at Port land undergoing improvements, is now nearly finished and wil be put I on the river soon. The warehouses along the river are filled to their utmost ca pacity with wheat, and at least half a dozen steamboats will he running on the upper river as soon as the water rises. Trouble in the Militia. There has been quite a tempest in the first regiment over the fact that Co. A hired the marine band to furnish music for the ball to be given on the 27th. Col. B?ebe wished A to utilize the regular regimental band. Col. Beebe has withdrawn his objections, and the tempest ha calmed. Col. Beebe has no prejudice against the marine band, but naturally desired to be stow the regimental patronage on the regularly enlisted band. Iliotl in ea!!l Leigh Gatch, son of Prof. T. Gov. lennoyer has received a communication from the trustees of the town of Sheridan, Yamhill county, Oregon, asking that some measures be taken to prevent a spread of smallpox in that county. The employes on the passenger trains of the Oregon & California railroad have received their new uniforms, according to orders is sued some time since by the South ern Pacific company. Conductors wear frock suits of navy blue, with brass buttons bearing a mon ogram "S. 1'." The baggage mas ters, engineers, brakemen and fire men wear sack suits of the same material, trimmed in a similar manner. The suits are very neat, and give the wearers an ollicial air and render it easy for any one to distinguish them. Very .Vuishly.
