Thurman intends to slip through Toledo without letting the outside world know it. His car was attached to a Pennsylvania special, but at Al toona word was received that a reception would be tendered at Harrisburg. The judge passed a pleasant minute, though the train was behind time and ran fast, making 30 miles in 27 minutes at one time. Over two thousand leople, preceded by the central democratic club, crowded around the train as it rushed into the depot. The platform r commends the administration of President Cleveland, endorses h' re-nomination and the nomination of Judge Thurman as vice-president, and demands the reduction of the present war taritf to such a rate as will leave in the pecket oi the people over one hundred mil lion dollars, now stored in the treasury vaults at Washington. Thomas McNaught, secretary of the Scot tich home rule association, has arrived in this country to solicit funds for the cause. He will make jl tour of the United States and Canada, going first to Salt Lake and San Francisco. Cyclone in Florida. Keywest, Sept. 5. A cyclone passed here to the eastwaidlast night. No damage is reported in this vicinity. It was probably much stronger in Cuba. Reports from Havana state that house were unroofed and trees blown down. Does England Want War. Chicago, Sept. 5. A Washing ton special says a great scare has been caused in the war department over information to the effect that a young British officer who has been in this country has procured tho secret of the operation of our torpedoes, upon which we mainly depend for uoasi defenses, and that he has secured complete drawings and forwarded them to England. l'ellow Fever. Washington, Sept. 5. A tele gram has teen received at the marine hospital from Dr. Wall, at Tampa, taying that seven new oases of yellow fever have been re ported during the last two days. Dr. Murray reports by telegraph that he has arrived at Tampa, and that he found one case at Manatee and another at Palmette. The other river towns are healthy. Murder at Itork .-prints. The Record Broken. Chicago, Sept. 5. Frank Mc Guiren, of Salt Lake, broke the typewriting record here la3t night by writing 1083 words in a minute, and 107 words in a minute blindfolded. DKAUGKIt TO DEATH. A Man Who Weill to Sleep Tied to a HorKt . Helena (M. T.), September 5. A' party just in from Cheteau gives the partieuiars of the terrible death ot a sbepheider named Smith. The man was herdiDg quite a dis tance from any habitation, and on the day of the accident was visited by the owner ot the flock and an appointment made i'er a meeog the next day. Smith not appear ing and the sheep being found un attended, search was made for the herder, who was found the next day at the end of a lariat, which was attached to an old Intiiw ca yuse. He was scarcely recogniz able, being pounded and mashed in a terrible maneer and all bu naked. The supposition is that he went to sleep, and to keep the pony from straying put tbe lariat around his waist, and the cayuse. becoming frightened, started off, knocking Smith insensible before he could help himself. All indications poiut to the crop for the Pacific Coast of about 85,000 bales, of which it is safe to state that about 20,000 bales have been contracted at a price ranging from S to 15 cents. Indications at the outset looked decidedly unpromis ing for growers, and early con tracts were made so as to, protect growers in the expense of raising and harvesting their hops. Since then bad weather in England has reduced Eusdish crop offerings. The east bound Chicago aod Atlantic fast freight struck and instantly killed three laborers near the State iine last night. The men had been working upon the other track, from they which ftepped to the one on which the freight was run ning to avoid a passenger train that was thundering toward them. The Standard in a savage leader on the fisheries question, says: It will be well for the President and Government of the United States to remember that Canada is a dependency of Great Bri.a;n, and that if the necessity should unfortunately arise she has behind her the guns of English ironclads. If our American cousins fail to understand this al lusion; if m defereoce to the tone of coarse brutality which seems to be a distinguishing feature of their domestic politics they inv;te us to reply to their insults in a strain they will comprehend, perhaps T?e may be allowed to remind them of the Trent affair. The Daily News says: "Presi dent Cleveland doubtless desires redress and Canada may fairly con sider what she can offer. The President's message seems to call upon Canada to do herself what England, owing mainly to an un happy choice of a Commissioner, failed to do for her. Her hands are free and she cannot do better than untie tbe knot which diplo macy has made tighter than ever." MARRIED A CHISAMAN. A Young Woman of Brooklyn Dig graces Her Family. New York, September 5. Brookiyn has come to the front for the second time with n twelve months with the announcement of the marriage of an accomplished American young lady to American ized Chinamen. The circumstan ces both are very similar. The marriage a year ago- was between tiu Sing, a. Chinese missionary, and a wealthy middle aged lady re siding on the hill. The parties to the present alfiance are Thomas Bowe, Chinese name unknown, and Miss Annie Tuttle, who resides with her sister and their widowed mother at o(3 Gates avenue. Eight years ago Tom came to Brooklyn, and alter a few days sight-seeing opened a laundry on Smith stre3t. He prospered aud saved money rapidly. Then he be gan to turn his thoughts in tbe direction or what had always been a hobby with him religion. He devoted himself to the study ot the English language, and after be was ahle to make himself understood he joined the Chinese Mission on Atlantic avenue. Two years ago the young man applied for mem bership in the Moravian Church on Jay street, near Myrtle avenue, of which Rev. Dr. Edward Wolle is pastor. Bowes' influence among the heatbren brethen grew, and he be came quite a power in the church. 1 He gave up his laundry and be came a missionary. At Sunday school he met Miss Annie Tuttle. This young lady took a great in terest in the proselyte and the story goes that after young Borneo joined the school she was a good deal more iegular ia her attend ance. Miss Tuttle is a member of a welJ connected and wealthy Brook lyn family. Her father has been dead for some years and the young lady has been provided with every hixury and comfort. Mrs. Tuttle was finally informed of her daugh ter's inla'.uation, and there was a: scene. The mother pleaded, sit-! ter implored, but all in vain. Miss Annie turned a deaf ear to their entreaties and said she would marrv the Chinaman in spite of all.
