Mr. A Brink, contractor on the
Oregon Pacific work eastward, was

of men are hard at work laying

bridges and blasting do not hinder.
It has been found tiiat the winter

the university and as a vacation
term school for teachers and stu
dents who wish to employ their
leisure thu profitably.
These summer schools are very
popular in the East, the Chautau
qua assembly, which takes tlie
lead of all, having won a world
wide reputation. At present nego
tiations are at a standstill owing to
i a disagreement in price between
one ol the owuors and the intend
ing purchasers; but Prof. Van
Scoy says that if this tract is not
bought some other one near it wiii
be, and that uext summer the
active work of getting the park in
shape, erecting buildings, etc., for
tne school will be commenced.
For a time the idea of locating
the park nehr Silver Creek falls
was senousi7 discussed; out it nas
been deemed advisable by those
having the matter iu hand to locate
it nearer to the line of the Oregon
Pacific railroad, so that it will be
easy of access to teachers' excur

to go further bnck in the moun
