COLORADO OPPOSED TO DEPEW'. Senator Teller of Colorado says: "It there are 10.000 ballots Depew will never get. more than one vote from Color nilo. We think Depew represents the raiiroad interests and nothing else. He js the weakest man who could lie nominated. We don't want a defensive campaign, as we would be forced to have it Depew w. s nominated. Then we don't want a man who has not been squarely in the party from the besr'ntimg. Depew's defection ;n 1872 ought to kill him politically. Colorado would have been for Blaine had he consented to rue, but we will not consider him now, believing he is honestly out of the race. Some of our delegates are already f i.' Gresham, and he is ui-doubtedly second choice with erery man amongst us. I believe Gresham is by all means the strongest man in the field." Senator lieek Frightened. Chicago Herald. Senator Beck received quite a shock the other day. He wan hastily passing through the rotunda of the Capitol, preparatory to go ing to Ivy City to the races, when a man excitedly shouted to him to get out of the way, at the 6amo time frantically pointing to a black box that was' held in such a position that the nozzle was di rected upward and straight toward Mr. Beck. The Kentucky Senator jumped about hree feet in the air and made wild gestures with his cane, evidently thinking that the machine was going to shoot. Tho man who held it laughed, and said it was simply a detective camera with which he was attempting to steal a photograph of the big painting at the top ot the donii! The Senator's burly form spoiled the focus, and tlie operator shout?d at him just as if he were an ordi nary citizen. I.IKI1.
