by the president from one of his
managers at St. Louis to the effect
that Judge Thurinan will not reluse
the vice-presidential nomination.
It is further reported that no later
than Monday evening a conference

which the comparative strengths
and weaknesses of the various can
didates will be talked ovor. There
is no doubt that the administra
is satisfied of the advisability of
the nomination of Judge Thurman.
Secretary Whitney thinks he can
not only carry Indiana, but will
make a close race lor republicans
in Ohio and possibly cany the Pa
slope states.

Chicago, June 2. A News spe
cial from Washington says that
General Sheridan, it is believed by
thor,3 who have seen him this
morning, will pull through, unless
he has another relapse. The pas
sage of the bill reviving the rank
ot general has done him more good
than medicine. He is determined
to live if there is a lighting chance
for him.
Washington, June 2. At 8:15
o'clock this morning Dr. Mathews
lelt Sheridan's residence and said
to a reporter that the general had
passed a quiet, comfortable night,
and that there was no recurrence of
the heart trouble. His cough is
not so severe as it was the prgviou 5
night, and on the whole he has
about held his own. All his doc
tors were with him at different
times during the night, Drs. Byrne
and Mathews remaining until
morning.

It they ever find the North Pole

A W oman Indicted Tor Murder.
Chicago. June 2. Mrs. Meckie
Lawson, the principal figure in the
court room yesterday, was indicted
by the grand jury tb-day for an at
tempt to murder Henry G. Whit
ney, her husband's attorney.
The Kerr Trial.
New York, June 2. This morn
ing the Kerr jury, which has been
been out since aight before last,
has announced a disagreement and
been discharged. Judge Patterson
fixed Kerr's bail at $50,000.
