Moselle, of Sweet Homo, was arrested and brought, to this city by Constable C. W. Watts on a charge of attempting to kill Dan iel Morris, his son-in-law, at that place on the 4th inst. lie was arraigned before Justice Humphrey,- and released on his own recognizance until 10 o'clock this morning. The facts of the assault, as near as can be aster tained, are that Mr. Koselle and his son-in-law did not agree and on the date named Morris came to the residence of the old gentleman and i accused him of saying unpleasant j things about him and his wife, j He product d a razor and brand- ished it in the air. until Koselle j got the butcher knite and ordered him out of the house, when he flew out at the window, and uld gentlemeu went back to plowing. A son of lloseile swore out the his the warrant for his arrest, and said his tather had also threatened to kill him and his mother. When ar raigned Koselle said he never car ried "a revolver, and thought it pretty hard papers to bring up his boys and then have them place him under arrest, when he had no desire or intention of harming any one. THE FIICE.HE. List of the Teams Practicing for the Tourn amentTheir Uniform. The fireman of this city are practicing in earnest for the com ing tournament. The following hose team is practicing, from which the twelve who will coin pose the team sent to the tourna ment, will be selected: C. W. Watts, manager; A. M. Young, foreman ; A. E. Long, Bert Logan, Burr Sloan, Walter East, Lake Dorris, Sidney Dorriss, Jos. Wat son, Win. Keece, Milton Holman. Edward Moore, Ausfm Crowder, Jos. Kendall, Harry Wooden. The the team is going into train ing under A. E. Long, trainer; and Burt Logan, assistant. They nave selected elegant uni forms, the pants being flesh col ored plush with navy blue vel veteen tnmmnig. Ihe shirts are ran color with navy blue front. The caps are re-versible, red and black. Thev will wear spiked racing shoes, and are alreadv get-1 ting over tiie ground at their prac tice in a very satisfactory manner. A tent has been erected at tiie racecourse, in front of the court house, for their accommodation, and an interest is being taken by the firemen which bespeaks suc cess. THE XEW STEAMKi:. Yesterday morning when the 5 :45 train rolled up to the water tank four gentlemen of leisure, ycleped "tourists," alighted from t heir upholstered seats on the brake beams and proceeded to one side to take a view of the situation and examine their charts as to the lay of the country. Officials present took their measure and proceeded to establish a careful supervision of their proceedings, leaving them afoot as the train left. Another l;irse Laud !ale. Messrs. Burkhart & Miller sold yesterday the E. N. White farm, situated near this city, containing 342 acres, to Mr. J. H. Burkhart.ol t his city. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The quarterly reports of the re corder and treasurer were reported correct bv the committee on ao- uu.,i u.u .uneuv expenses ana . , . 1 . . I the same were ordered placed on file. The committee on streets and public property recommended that the sewer in the alley in block'y be lowered at the expense of proper y owners within 15 days, and that the same be extended to Waseing ton street; abo that the water ditch on the west side of Lyon street be placed in good condition ; also for various sidewalk and street improvements, which reports were adopted. The report of the committee on streets that the petition of K. M. Robertson for a foot bridge across the canal be postponed for the present, was adopted. The matter of changing the grad ing of certain streets in the First ward was referred to a commute of the whole. The ordinance bill amending the ordinance providing for the licens ing, restraining, taxing and regu lating the sale of spirituous liquors, was laid on the table. The mayor and recorder reported that the contract for the purchase of a new fire engine had been duly signed, the engine to be received about June 1, and their action was ratified, alter an eloquent speech in favor of the firemen of the city by Councilman Hoffman. Petition was read and referred for the opening of the alley in block 13; also for various street improvements.- Councilman Writsman intro duced ordinance bill No. 148, amending the ordinance providing for the construction of a sewer on Railroad street, which was read first time and second timeby title and was referred. City Surveyor W. B. Barr re ported that he had examined the Calapooia street sewer, and that the sewer did not discharge prop erly, and was lower in the middle than at the mouth, and recom mended a series of experiments by flushing it, to ascertain-if it can be repaired without taking it up. It was ordered that the sewer be flushed by the steamer. A Sherman patent bridge vra ordered on Ninth street. The city surveyor was instructed to make the survey for the sewer on Baker street, and that the com mittee on streets advertise for bids for the work. F. M.
