George concert com Dim v have organized a second musical convention of 100 pupils. The dedicatiug service of the new Masonic hall were held last evening. Many prominent masons from various parts of the valley were present. Archbishop Gross, of Portland spent Sunday and Monday in Eugene, holding services at the Catholic chuch Sunday and lecturing on Monday evening. S. M. Toran, chairman of the repub liean county central committee has issued a call for the committee to meet at 'the court house March (5th to select the tiaie of holding the primaries and convention of Lane county. The fank of Oregon with J. B. Harris as president, and V. T. Feet as cashier, commenced business the first of the week F.ugene now has three banks and it is safe to say that the new bank will get its share of the business. President Van Scoy, of the Willam ette university, lias been chosen by the faculty of the State university to deliver the baccalaureate sermon to the graduating class next commence ment, and H. V. A Merchants Bedroom Entered aid $75 Carrie! Aaway. A gang of burglars, who seeming ly have made their base of opera tions in Linn county, have kept the officers busy on their track for the past months, and the newt papers busv chronicling their fre quent succesful jobs. The most recent affair of this kind is a burg lary at Lebanon. On Wednesday night the bedroom of Thos. Peeb lar at the St. Charles hotel was en tered by the intruder pushing the key out of the door and unlocking it with a key of his . own. He was so quiet about it that Mr. Peeblar was not awakened. The burglar rumaged about the room, and se cured $75 from the pockets of the sleeper's trousers and made good his escape. No clue as to the iden tity of the bold intruder has been obtained. Wu nlod to be I'irjil s Bold. There has been considerable anxiety in three homes in this citv for a couple days on account of the disappearance of three lit tle boys, who ran away from home. The boys whose names are Harry Saltmarsh, Harry Hardy and Fred Mlls, presumably wanted to be pirates bold, for they appropri ated a skiff on the river and sailed away Wednesday afternoon. Their relatives heard of them at Inde pendence, and sent after them. The latter had been arrested there for some midemeanor, and was held in $15 bonds, but the other j two are expected home on the steamer Wm. Hoag this morning. They wih probably be sadder if not wiser bovs. Convocation Services. There will be no services in the Episcopal church next Sunday, March 4th. the usual services being postponed until March 11th, at which time Bishop Morris will be present and administer tne rite of confirmation. Hust Sues the Pacific for $160,000- Oregon In the state circuit court Wednes day G. W. Hunt, through his at torneys, Messrs. Williams & Woods began action to recover $160,000 from the Oregon Pacific railway company. The complaint alleges : "On the 8th of last August Hunt entered into a contract with the company whereby he was to com plete a section of the road, about sixty-two miles in length, extend ing from the Hogg pass in the Cascades to a point near Albany, westward of which is the portion of the road embraced in Nelson Bennett's contract. By the terms of this contract.it was stipulated that the company was to furnish material for the construction oi a jiortion of the road, it being sfee ified that tnere were to be supplied 130 miles of steel rails, then repre sented to be in ban Francisco. "All the minute features of the work were detailed in the contract, and owing to defendant's failure to comply w it h its agreement, plain- tiil was compelled to discontinue operations on the 12th of Decem ber. Among other things, the matter of damages sustained by the contractor, the suspension oi work, estimates, etc., were spec ified. It is also claimed that plaintiff was influenced to close the contract by representations by the company to the etlect that sev eral millions of dollars were avail able on the call of the company. when, in fact, there was a sum not to exceed $5O,0OJ. "In the complaint it is set forward that all the provisions of the contiact have been broken bv the company. At the home of her parents, D. S, and M. Busey, near Harrisburg, on last Monday. Laura, wife of Oliver Hyde. In the prime of noble womanhood, and beloved by all w ho knew her, watched over by tender and anxious parents and a devoted and loving husband, the death messenger called and she obeyed the summons. California climate, which was tried to save her life, failed to bring relief, and the sorrowing but faithful husband brought his cherished one home to die. The funeral services were conducted in the Christian church in Harrisburg on Tuesday, Rev. B. E.
