A Crazy Prisoner Attacks the Guard at the
Penitentiary-Murderer Landreth,

Cleilan a convict serving a sentence
of ten years in the penitentiary,
from Benton county, for attacking
a boy with a pitch fork last year,
this morning attacked the guard in
the finishing shop of the foundry
at tiie prison with a hammer, strik
ing him a severe blow behind tiie
ear. The other convicts seized
him and he was locked up -in a
cell. It had been evident for some i
time that McCIellau was out of his
right mind, and this afternoon he
was examined and ordered com
mitted to the asylum.

Sheriff Graves, of Polk county,
came over tiiis afternoon and took

derer, but Mr. Graves positively
refuses to obey the instructions of

propose to incur any more risks.

Bullock, therefore, decided the
