'Black Mantles' was presented at
Pennepin Avenue last night to a
very good house. Those who did
not witness the performance were
the losers. With each night it be
comes more apparent that the
company is one of unusual strength.
The Boston Ideals presented the
same opera at the Grand two years
ago, and it would not compare in
excellence with that of the Pyke
company. The opera itself is very
beautiful. The music is of a higher
order than that in most light op
eras. There are exquisite num
bers all through it. Miss Wins
ton was irresistable as Don Luis,
and she sang much better than at
any other time this week. Her
co-tumes were magnificent. Miss
Manfred was a captivating Girola,
and showed herself to lie an unus
ually clever actress. The duet be- j
tween Miss Winston and Miss j
Manfred, 'Love is Blind,' is one of !
the loveliest melodies that has ever '
been sung in Minneapolis. Louis j
