Some years ago since Professor Davidson exhibited at the Academy of Sciences two boomerangs which a friend nad procured for him from, old Indians living on therlanks of the San Jacinto mountains, in Los Angeles county . One was heavy and intended for large game and for war, the other was a lighter oue for small game. The latter was differently from the curved Doomed raug of Austrada. The former v. as not curved, but the two nearly equal arms subtended an angle of 110 degrees. The Indians know nothing about the method ot throw- s ing-:tiwie v:T.:7i..ey6:ld:" ' turn in any measure to the throw er. This announcement soon elicited a note from John T. Dovle, stating that when the earlv Spaniards reached the region of New Mexico they found a boo nerang in use by the natives, but that it differed m shape wholly from the Australian or the Californum. Prom- the Spanish description the shape was about two-l birds the circumference of an ellipse, one of longer sides being wanting. In other words, it was very trvflcn the block letter C.
