The Largest Grapevine.
|
From the Kansas City Journal,
The largest grapevine in the
| world is growing in the Carpinteria
valley, 12 miles east of Kauta Har
! bara, California, aud is called La
Fura Grande.
It was started from
a cutting 61 years ago by a young
Spanish woman. Dona Aylu.
It
is eight feet four inches in circuui
ference at its base, and one o f the
horizontal branches measures more
than three feet in circumference.
The trellis covers about a third, of
an acie, and 60 heavy posts sup
port it. The vine produces as many
as 5,000 bunches annually, at a
conservative estimate, and in good
years many clusters measure 12 to
15 inches in length and weigh six
to eight pounds.
Its owner esti
mates that in 1895 the vine yielded
10 tons of grapes.

for small children you want one in
which you can place implicit confi

that is unquestionably harmless. • H 3
You want one that is pleasant to
take. Chamberlain’s Cough Rem-

There is nothing so good for the I J i i •
coughs aud colds incident to child
hood. It is also a c j i tnin preven

is no dauger whatever from whoop
ing cough when it is given. It has
been used in many epidemics of
that disease with perfect success.
