Tho total reduction over the roll of 1898 is 8900,000, of which amount $050,000, is a reduction in tbe assessment of railroad property. The remaining $250,000, is the to tal reduction for the balance of Jack- son county. The road bed of the railroad company is reduced from $10,000 per mile to $1500 per mile. Railroad lands are assessed at about 00 cents per acre, a reduction of nearly one-half over 1898. County Judge Crowell made a motion to issue a citation to the railroad company for thorn to uppenr and show cause if any existed, why the assessment as returned by tbe assessor should not be raised. Crow ell voted for bis motion and County Assessor Pendleton and County Clerk Gus Newbury voted no, and the motion was lost.— Ashland Re cord. ( N o t e . — Judge Crowell is a Pop ulist, and still stands flat-footed on his principles and for the people, but the railroad company and its heelers worked on the people suf ficiently hard at last election to un do the good work that had been accomplished in the way of reform, and now deserve to get what they voted for.
