Jesse McQuigg killed a tine brown bear At China Camp, abont 1} miles from his borne, last Fri day. He went out banting, but without any expectation o f meet ing a bear, and when be heard a noise, thought it was a deer, bnt caught a glimpse of bruin stand ing in his way and looking at him. He raised his gun and fired, the shot striking him on the? nose and ranging back into his bead: a sec ond shot broke bis neck, and an other ebot quieted the brute com pletely. He dressed 180 pounds. Jesse brooght us a sample roast aod one paw, which measures 44 inches across. The clawa are 1J inches straight across. The hide weighed 30 lbs., and measured 4J feet across and 6 feet long. { DR.
