Mr. D. is expecting his books within the unit two weeks, and de sires that the pioneers and sub scribers generally be prepared to receive the history and pay for same promptly on delivery. The H erald hud mentioned a distressing accident or two last week, and was hardly prepared to predict such a rush of futulities and distressing casualties as has t tken place since, beginning with the day following last week's issue, except in one instance. Miss Walker fared better. THUMB AMPUTATED. John Wagner, a young son of John L. Wagner of the Rural set tlement, Sunday evening, 11th inst., was riding a horse and lead ing another with a lariat oenr his home. His saddle horse, at a cer tain point in the road, made a jump, and a loop in the lariat slipped over a thumb and almost severed that member from the hand. It was found necessary later to take the boy to Myrtle Point for Dr. Roberda’ services, who ampu tated the Incerated member. The boy suffered very much, the hurt proving very painful. Little Clyde Caldwell, aged 6 or 7 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Caldwell of Myrtle Point, was rid ing horseback at his home, last Wednesday, from which he fell accidentally and broke an arm.
