Vinclt Omnia Veritas. Texas Exemption Laws. Head of the Chaldean Church. Rev Dr. Chalmers Easton, of Washington, D.C., recently received a letter from Rev. John H. Barrows, a Ureabyterian clergyman in India, in which tho latter shed some further lirrht on the startling career of John Joseph Nouri, a man who f iv e years was committed to an insane nsi- lum at Napa, California. N oiut s a i d he was a deposed king of the Chaldeans, and that he discovered the remnant« of Nouhaark on the summit of Mount Ararat. When released from the asylum Noun said that he had been robbed of four medals studded with diamonds .val ued at $250«. tho gift of the Chal dean Greek church, of a negotiable note of »2500 and of his creden tials. Dr. Chalmers F.aston believed in him and helped him in his jour ney eastward. Later on lie dis played his knowledge of Greek, and in Washington, D. C , at t le Smith sonian Institute, truuslated the hieroglyphics ou somo tablets theie with surprising ease. Now comes tho climax to the story in the let ter from Rev. John H. Yates of Corvallis, related his experience with a bicycle agent, the last time he was down in Coos county. From what Sir. Yates says, it is evident that the bicycle man deliberately lied to him. The agent said that his com pany were handling a “ bike” that had tbo small wheel in front. It was ou the safely plan and oue of theeuticing features of the concern was that you could jump over logs aud other tbiugs to a height of four feet or more, by petting well under headway aDd just at the critical moment thiowingyour body back aud raising the small wheel in front luto the air, theu by sud denly reversing the movein -ut, the liiud wheel goes up aud vou me over. This struck the prosecuting attorney very favorably. He said nothing at the time, hut when lie told the story to his Corvallis friends on bis return, he judged from the roar that weut up (hat he Imd been the victim of a joke.— Times.
