The city schools started oil fairly well yesterday. The departments are crowded, although the attend ance is far short of the annual enrollment of the scholastic popu lation. The board of directors has done all that can be done in the matter under present condi tions. The snow which covered the ground to the depth of J or 2 of an inch last Saturday morning, lasting tilt about 10 o’clock, proved a bonanza to the old and young hoys for the pastime of snow ball ing and face-washing. And it did not stop with tlie male sex, for many of the ladies could not resist the temptation to get even with or better some one, and took part with an interest and energy that showed they claimed no exemption as being “ the weaker sex,” hut took their chances and proved to he heroines.
