McCann, a sawmill man from below Bandon, was up at this place part of Inst week. He lived here for about a ypar. Albert Skelly. son of W. P. Skelly and formerly a Coquille boy, is up from Ca'ifornin for the season. He is visiting relatives here. The Collegiate Institute resumed yesterday, after a week’s vacation, with a very good attendance. Oth ers will be in during the week. Tickets, 50 cents—bon-bons free — nt the ball Saturday night. The president of the Coquille Dairymen’s Union calls the annual meeting of that body to be held in this plnce on the 2d Monday in next Month— April 12th— for the purpose of electing officers for the ensuing yenr, nnd to transact any other business that may come before the meeting. Comrade Quick received a nice present the latter part of last week from a distance, being a handsome scsrfpin, made from n nugget of gold in its native condition. He thinks be knows the donor, but received the present without any wonl as to who forwarded it and therefore reserves his judgment. T. A. Walker helped Engineer Nicholson in his recent geological surveys in this section. Among other things found, was one o f the government’s initial points, nt the courthouse block, which had been tampered with. A fine of $250 is provided in such cases, for arrest and conyiction of the pa-ty or parties so meddling with or defac ing these posts.
