It is the duty of every loyal American citizen to work for the best interests of the country, and to uphold the administration of Wm. McKinley in everything that will redound to the honor and the glory of our common land. Let not the goldites, however, “lay the flattering unction to their souls” that the cause of silver has been irretrievably defeated. By means best known to Mark Hanna, it has been checked at Gettysburg and temporarily held back at Vicksburg. But it is already breaking away from its bonds, is pushing straight on to the Shenandoah valley, and four years from now it will rest under the apple tree of victory at the Ap pomattox courthouse of its hopes. “The blood of the martyrs is the soed of the church,” and the wrong that has been done to Wm. J. Bryan, to the cause of right, and to the American people, will prove to be the germ of the mighty oak of the popular will, whose growth no in timidation cau hereafter check, and whose proud buorgeoning in March of 1901, no fraud can stay.—Sacra mento Bee (Silver Bep.).
